Clockwork Heart

The cyborg soldiers are trying to dig themselves out. The hand that burst through the rock has a lens and is monitoring you, but when you notice that, it retreats back into the rock and the sound of digging stops. You need to reach the cache that Bakari mentioned. The digging starts again, but they seem to be digging downwards. Janine spots a rough path. Watch your step!

Janine tells you to smear mud over your neck and arms; it has high iron content so it should muffle the tracker signals and make it harder for the base to find you. You start to cross a rickety rope bridge. Peter complains about the lack of supplies and that Van Ark gets to do whatever he wants. The soldiers emerge from the rock on the other side of the river. You cut the bridge, but the soldiers just wade across the fast-flowing river – even bullets do nothing to deter them. Janine leads you up a narrow trail that will hopefully funnel the soldiers into single file.

The soldiers are still crossing the river in single file, but they have spotted you. Sam and Maryam reach you through the radio. They're in the desert in a stolen Jeep and they've been able to remove their trackers. The soldiers climbing an almost-sheer rock face and are catching up with you again. Maryam says she had thought the super-soldier program was a myth. She and Sam are headed for the Maghreb Protectorate, but Janine says you can't meet with them with the soldiers in pursuit. You need to find cover!

Janine shoots a branch one of the soldiers was using as a handhold and sends it plunging to the ground. It's dead, but the other soldiers strip it of its technology and keep moving. They've reached the path! Peter notices a sign for a hiking trail and sees that the path forks ahead. He has a plan!

You reach the viewpoint and Peter points out the path turns sharply. It turns the path into a bottleneck. You need to use the burn cube in Peter's chest. Janine begins to cut it out and admits that she loves Peter. She gets the burn cube out and Peter passes out from the blood loss, although he will heal quickly. You detonate the burn cube. It vaporises many of the soldiers and throws the others off the edge. No time to rest though – there are military helicopters approaching. You need to find cover quickly!

You find a nook in the rock and hide there. Peter suggests that you leave him, but Janine refuses, and apologises for agreeing to put the burn cube into his body. He tells you to take his tracker – he'll stay here until he recovers. Janine does as he asks, but leaves him a map and compass so he can find you again. He loses consciousness. You and Janine leave to lead away your pursuers.
