The Wake-Up Call

You ponder how to deal with the Dream Eater. Perhaps you need to find out what it wants. You want to lure it into the castle, but find you're trapped inside with no way over the castle walls. Luckily you still have Excalibur so try cutting the chains to drop the drawbridge.

The chains of the portcullis change into black and green snakes which Wanda and Dr. Strange destroy, and you lower the drawbridge. Wanda creates an illusion of treasure to lure the dragon in.

Dr. Strange bargains with the dragon and offers to let the Dream Eater feed on his nightmares in return for freeing it. A peaceful solution. The Dream Eater agrees.

You present the sword to the Dream Eater, but suddenly it is lashed down by green and black vines. Dr. Strange recognises them now; they belong to the demon Nightmare, and this is his realm.

The Dream Eater belongs to Nightmare, but he had imprisoned it for getting ambitious. Nightmare claims he came to help you, but then you bargained with the Dream Eater, and he will not allow that. Give him the Dream Eater so he can kill it, and he will cure Dr. Strange's insomnia, and free you. Dr. Strange seems to agree to the bargain, and restrains Wanda. Run!

Dr. Strange continues to bargain with Nightmare, but speaks telepathically to you. He'll keep Nightmare distracted for as long as he can while you come up with something. Nightmare feeds on fear, so think of the happiest memory of your life, and Wanda will channel it into a spell and force Nightmare out of your head.

Dr. Strange releases you and Wanda, and you channel your memory into the spell. Dr. Strange keeps Nightmare occupied while you paint the ground around him with the spell. While Nightmare is gloating, you stab him, weakening him enough for you to defeat him.

You are safe, as is the Dream Eater. Dr. Strange and Wanda will see you in the waking world soon. The Dream Eater guides you back home, and releases you from slumber.
