1
You're in the middle of the Spanish desert with Ernie, and you can see the base where Valmont is holding Runner Five. Or at least that's what your intelligence said, but it looks like an abandoned old west town. Perhaps an ancient film set? You've been searching for weeks, chasing dead ends. Ernie knows that Valmont's weakness is his flare for drama - most of the buildings are just backdrops, but the saloon is real, and has barred and sealed windows. Get ready for a fight, Ranger Five! Your namesake is awaiting rescue!
2
You enter the saloon, and Ernie worries that you haven't seen any guards yet. He hacks a door, and when you enter, you discover that it's a laboratory full of dissection tables and robot arms. There is a cell in the corner but that... isn't Runner Five. It's Peter! Ernie realises that he's the priority prisoner, due to his immortality. You need to get him out!
3
You're out of immediate danger, but you need to keep moving. Zombie hands burst out of the ground nearby, and you grab Peter and start running. You eventually put Peter down and shoot a couple of the emerging zombies. Peter immediately tries to run away, so get moving! You need to catch up with him.
4
You find Peter slumped against a stagecoach in another old film set. He talks about the experiments performed on him, while Ernie tries to explain that he hadn't been the one performing them, and he has no love for Valmont. Peter seems to relent a little, though he admits he lost touch with reality a while ago. The zombies burst through the ground and you fall into a tunnel system. Peter tells you to follow him. He knows a way out!
5
You've lost the zombies for now, and are in a room filled with Old West memorabilia. Ernie notices claw marks on the cavern walls, and pits filled with half eaten corpses. This is a larder and Peter brought you here on purpose! Peter says that he can't leave, but the way out is over there. He's going a different way.
6
You catch up with Peter and he looks utterly hopeless. Valmont speaks, but Peter assures you that its a recording. It says that Peter knows the rules – he lets Valmont experiment on him, and Valmont doesn't torture Janine. The zombies have a slow-acting strain of virus that means they don't feed as much. They just bury people and occasionally nibble. Peter was left like that for days. Ernie refuses to leave Peter behind. You'll just have to rescue Janine too. And if Peter stays, you stay – and Valmont won't need Peter then will he? You're interrupted by the burrowing zombies, and Peter relents. Move!
7
You make it to the surface, but keep running! The zombies are after you. You cross the nearby river and the zombies stop following you. Peter panics, but Ernie points out that Valmont would just kill Janine once Peter is no longer useful... and Valmont isn't watching that facility closely. He won't know Peter is gone for certain for at least two weeks. The background noise of Valmont's recording gives you a clue, and Ernie thinks it must have been made at a base in Tabarca, which is close by. Peter is determined to free Janine.
